Sociology 296: Field Experience
Sociology 296 gives students a chance to explore sociology in the "real" world. Students find internships in a wide range of fields, including criminal justice, medical, communications, and marketing, and they analyze their experiences from a sociological perspective. Here is some information about the class that students might find helpful.
When is Soci 296 offered? Soci 296 is offered each semester and during summer as well.
How to sign up for Soci 296? During class registration, the department puts out an application form for Soci 296, and you can pick it up from Kathy Covey, Department of Sociology office, first floor Manchester Hall.
Criminal Justice Internships
For Connecticut State CJ placements (e.g., parole, courts), contact Rosanne Purtill.
For Bergin Prison placements (it's on Route 44, across from the UConn Depot campus), contact Calma Frett, at (860)487-2861.
For a local or state police department, contact that department.

Workload. Students are required to have 28 internship hours for every academic credit. Three credits would be 84 hours. In addition, students write various papers analyzing their internship from a sociological perspective.
